Is a Laser Jammer Legal in the UK?

A laser jammer is effectively not road-legal in the UK. Owning one is not itself an offence, but using it to actively block a police speed-measuring laser has been prosecuted as perverting the course of justice.

Why?

A laser jammer transmits a signal to stop a police laser (LIDAR) gun getting a speed reading. The device is not banned to buy, which is why people assume it is fine - but the use is the problem. Deliberately defeating a police speed measurement has been treated by the courts as perverting the course of justice, which is a serious criminal offence that has led to convictions and jail sentences.

That is different from a radar detector, which only receives. A jammer actively interferes with an enforcement instrument, and that active interference is what crosses the line. There is no version of "jamming the police laser" that is a legal thing to do on the road.

A windscreen-mounted unit also has to not obscure the driver's view. The bottom line: treat a laser jammer as not for road use - the hardware may be sold, but using it exposes you to a far bigger charge than the speeding it was meant to hide.
