Wide Arches and Stretched Tyres: What Is Road-Legal?
Wide-body looks are legal, but one rule underpins all of it: the wings have to cover the tyres. Here is how arches, flares and stretched tyres fit that.
Wide arches, body kits and stretched tyres are road-legal in the UK within one core rule: the wings must cover the full width of the tyre, and the tyres must be safe and within their fitment limits. Poke a tyre out past the arch and it stops being legal.

The rule underneath all of it
A car has to have wings or mudguards that cover the full width of the tyre tread. That single requirement is what most wide-body legality comes back to: as long as the arch covers the tyre, a wider track is fine; the moment a tyre sits proud of the arch line, it is an offence.
Wide arches and body kits
Wide-arch body kits and bolt-on arch extensions are legal, and are usually what makes a wide setup legal, because they extend the cover back out over the wider wheels and tyres. Stretched tyres
A stretched tyre (a narrow tyre on a wide rim) has no specific ban, but it must stay within the tyre maker’s safe fitment range for that rim width, and be undamaged and correctly seated. Put together
Cover the tyres with the arches, keep the tyres within their safe fitment and in good condition, make sure nothing fouls, and declare the changes to your insurer. Do that and the wide-body look is road-legal; leave a tyre uncovered or a stretch beyond the safe range and it is not.
